From the 19th of June 2008, the International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) is applicable also to companies providing
maintenance services in the railway business.
The IRIS Group has released an
IRIS Addendum, 19th June 2008,
available in 4 languages, which contains key changes and new
requirements to be fulfilled in order to be certified from now on.
SUMMARY of changes on IRIS in June 2008 (IRIS Rev. 01)
Chapter 1
- Letter of Compliance to replace the Corporate Certificate;
- More precise rules for withdrawal of an IRIS Certificate;
Chapter 3
- Scope of activity maintenance added to design, manufacturing, installation and customer service;
- Improved control on product’s documentation and on records;
- Assessment of competency of people;
- Management of engineering change activities;
- Process required for reviewing requirements related to the product;
- Awareness of the criticality of the product;
- Assessment and management of risks to supply critical products;
- Increased information required during the purchasing phase;
- Improved communication channels between project stakeholders;
- Procedure to control and react on changes impacting the product realization;
- Control of deferred and abnormal work;
- Process to monitor external incident reports and take actions when necessary;
- New terms and definitions for the railway industry.
